Funky Tomato!

Several weeks ago, I was making soft tacos, guacamole, and PW's Pico de Gallo. I had all the ingredients ready. We had one tomato in the fruit bowl on the counter, and I figured I would use it before it went bad. This tomato hadn't been there very long, but I wasn't sure if there would be another chance to use it before it spoiled.


This tomato was firm, a pretty red with no bruises or squishy spots. First, I cut off the top. Nothing strange.




Next, something I have never seen. I started to slice the tomato. That's when I noticed something strange. I'll admit, my first reaction was worms.



Upon further examination, there were leaves. These weren't worms, they were SPROUTS! I don't normally take pictures of what I'm cooking, because, lets face it, I don't cook anything that is that exciting. But I knew I had to take pictures, becasue no one would ever believe me.

Of course, I wasn't just going to stop at that point. I had to see just how much of these sprouts there were. I then sliced the outer layer of the tomato off. This thing was COVERED! The only explaination we could come up with was that the tomato seeds fermented and started to grow inside itself.

Needless to say, we didn't use the tomato in the pico. BUT we did decide to plant it. We put it in a planter box in the kitchen. It almost started to take root, but then quickly faded.

I googled "sprouts growing inside tomato" and I didn't come up with much. There was one article that claimed it was from fertilizers and just another reason to eat organic food. This tomato had "frankenstein bumps".

And this blog. She didn't find her "tomato inside a tomato" until after she boiled it.

And this blog. The man was surprised to find a "green arm" coming out of his tomato. He didn't cut into his, just let it grow. It is pretty impressive.

Cars and Coffee

I figured out that the white balance on my camera was set to something funky during the Dallas Mustang Open House. That is why most of the pictures look funny. They came out with a blue tint and then I tried to edit them in Photoshop Elements. Needless to say, I have a lot to learn on both fronts.

Cars and Coffee is an event that began in California several years ago. It finally made its way to Dallas. It is held the last Saturday of every month in Plano/Frisco from 8am - noon. It is just a large get together, no prizes, no awards. Just 'Cars and Coffee'. This was the first time that we have gone. I overheard someone say there were over 600 cars there. I don't know what the final count was, but I do know there was more money there than I would EVER know what to do with.


There is more money in this car ALONE than I would EVER know what to do with.
It is an ORIGINAL 1964 Cobra 427. Out of the 20 or so out there that day, this was the only original one. The rest were replicas.




When most people do flames on a car, it is painted on. This guy, I can only assume, took a piece of sheet metal and actually formed it into the body of the car. It was 3D. If I were to do flames, I would do them like this.

Dallas Mustang Open House 2009

Dallas Mustang Open House is in October. Luckily, in past years it was either the weekend before or the weekend after the car show at the Dairy Queen in Seven Points (The car club Poppa is a member of hosts). Unfortunately, this year they landed on the same weekend. With Open House proving profitable in years past, I couldn't pass on this year. Good thing I didn't, we won some great prizes.
